HIGH WALL STABILISATION

CLIENT: KBJ MINERALS

LOCATION: KALGOORLIE, WA

DESIGN:  ROCKFALL MESH DRAPE

PROJECT OVERVIEW

RIX Asset Maintenance was contracted to install rock bolts and a rock fall protection system above and below the haul road at the Cannon Pit Mine. The system comprised of 100 X 12m rock bolts and 8,000m2 of Geobrugg Minax.

The rock bolts were installed to increase the stability of the haul road while the drape mesh was installed to control rock fall from high walls. Both components combined to allow for safe vehicle movements along the haul road.

SOLUTION

Rock bolts were installed up slope at a height of 14 metres and downslope 12m by the RAM High Reach Drill Unit, which is operated by remote control. Access for personnel to the drilling unit and the high wall was by rope access and EWP. On completion of drilling, RAM installed the 8,000m2 of Geobrugg Minax Rock Fall Drape by crane. RAM completed all aspects of the installation including grouting, drilling, EWP and IRATA rope access.

RAM was able to mobilise all plant, equipment and a multi skilled team of IRATA personnel at short notice and within tight budget constraints.
