DESIGN:  TECHNICAL CASED DRILLING

The Sydney Metro is Australia's biggest public transport project and, when complete, it will deliver 31 metro stations and more than 66 kilometres of new metro rail, revolutionising the way Australia's biggest city travels.

RIX Asset Maintenance (RAM) was contracted by the John Holland CPB Ghella (JHCPBG) joint venture to stabilise a 20m high sandstone heritage wall at Barangaroo prior to JHCPBG excavating shafts to lower the Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM).

RAM completed the following:

  • Diamond Coring through heritage wall
  • Drilling and installation of steel to plastic permanent casing system to 150mm
  • Installation of double corrosion protected anchors
  • Installation of drainage and weep holes

The new permanent casing technique that RAM developed for the project enabled the works to be successfully completed with difficult access drilling equipment.

RAM successfully completed these drilling work using many different access techniques, these included drilling from/with:

  • 20T excavator and drill mast
  • Longreach excavator and drill mast capable of drilling to 16m height
  • Crane drill capable of drilling to 21m height
  • Diamond core drilling equipment elevated work platforms
  • Scissor lifts
